OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BENIGNO S. AQUINO
Dear President Aguino,
As you preside the Mindanao Energy Summit to discuss the proposed solutions in addressing the energy crisis, we learned that one of the solutions being proposed is to revisit the Electric Power Industry Reform Act Law of 2011 for review, prohibiting the government from engaging in the buying or selling of electricity other than the existing ones. We also learned that some businessmen and a few members of Congress are proposing the use of nuclear energy.
While the Energy Summit is also aimed at giving the stakeholders an opportunity to express their concerns in an attempt to devise long-term solutions to the problem, we fear that certain participants will attempt to swing the decision of stakeholders into agreeing to the nuclear energy option, making others believe that this is the ultimate and quickest alternative.
Mr. President, what ever happened to your mandate for the Department of Energy to explore alternative and renewable sources of energy? This could have been the opportunity for DoE to present its proposals, if any.
